PHIL ROUSE

Instructor, Electrical Systems Technology

Phil is a graduate of CPCC’s Electrical Systems Technology Program and has worked in the electrical field in various industries, including nuclear, industrial, commercial, and residential. He is the Department Chair for Electrical Systems Technology Department. Earlier in his career, he was a senior electronics technician for a wireless control manufacturer. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Systems Technology, as well as certifications in Instrumentation, Electronics, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

 

Reggie Wilson

Instructor, Electrical Systems Technology

Reggie is an Electrical Systems technology Instructor. He has brought to the school over 40 years of electrical experience in various duties including automotive, aircraft, residential, commercial, industrial and electronics. Along with many other higher education accomplishments, Reggie also graduated from the electrical systems technology program at Central Piedmont Community College.

 

Robert Meier

Instructor, Architectural Technology

Robert Meier is a former New York State licensed Career and Technical Education teacher in Architectural Technology and Construction Trades (Construction Management). He taught Architecture and Construction Management at Saunders Trades and Technical H.S., a blue ribbon CTE certified school, in Yonkers, N.Y. for 31 years. Prior to his years of teaching, he worked as an AutoCAD operator, Designer, and Construction Manager for an architectural design-build firm.

 

Tom Derthick

Instructor, Construction Management Technology

Tom has been at Central Piedmont Community College in various roles since 2007 and recently became Construction Management Technology Department Chair. He got his first carpentry job at the age of 14, working (carrying things around really) for a family friend in New Jersey. Tom moved to North Carolina after High School with the intention of going to college. He got a full-time job in construction and school was put on hold for 23 years.

 

George Wightman

Instructor, Construction Management Technology

George has an AB degree in Business Administration from ECU and a master’s degree in construction management from WCU. He also runs his own construction company of 35 plus years, focusing on aa variety of projects including single family homes, townhomes, medical offices and office condos.

 

Spencer Monroe

Instructor, Construction Management Technology

Spencer started teaching at CPCC in the Fall of 2022 after teaching construction and carpentry classes at West Meck High School for four years. With a bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and Management from Clemson University, he started his construction career as a project manager for home builders in the Charlotte and Columbia, SC areas in 2013.

 

Don Cox

Instructor, Construction Management Technology

Don Cox joined the ROC in October of 2021. He has a Masters Degree in Construction Management, an OSHA 30 Certification, and an Unlimited North Carolina Plumbing Contractors License. He has extensive experience in teaching Continuing Education courses for contractors and inspectors. He has worked for over 40 years in the commercial, industrial, and residential construction discipline.

 

Justin Hoey

Instructor, HVAC Technology

Justin graduated from Central Piedmont Community College with an A.A.S. in Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology and now serves as the deparment chair. He continues to work in the field focusing primarily on HVAC residential service.

 

Christopher Wiggins

Instructor, Electrical Systems Technology

Christopher Wiggins has been teaching the electrical trade for Central Piedmont Community College for the last 6 years and in the electrical industry for 12 years. Christopher’s listening and empathy skills has allowed him to build and foster relationships with students while leading them to success.

Norman Saunders

Norman is a leader in the construction education field in Charlotte, bringing over 35 years of experience as a master carpenter. Norman started in the field as a laborer and has worked in all aspects of carpentry and construction, now sharing his passion with the next generation of construction leaders. He has built a company, worked on Department of Defense contracts at Fort Bragg and other military facilities, worked for the Cities of Erie, and Fayetteville, and also on high end housing developments in Dallas and Memphis.

Maurice Jones

Maurice has 25 years of experience as a licensed electrical contractor and a state licensed mechanical contractor. He holds certifications in photovoltaic and hydrogen fuel cell technology. Maurice obtained his degree in HVAC & Refrigeration from Central Piedmont Community College where he was a part time instructor. During his earlier years, Maurice was an electrical teacher for Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools at Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology.

James Shepherd

James is a full time ROC carpentry instructor and also teaches continuing education at Central Piedmont Community College. Due to setbacks in his early life, he is very committed to being a compassionate mentor and instructor to youth facing similar struggles.

Jonathan Johnson

Jonathan is an experienced tradesman with more than 10 years in the construction field and project management industry. Jonathan holds certifications in construction management, plumbing and fire, and general contracting. Jonathan moved to North Carolina in 2019 and operates his own construction business.
